Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF) Load-In Facility Expansion and Backup Station
Hanford, WA, Washington Department of Ecology
Akana and VNSFS teamed to design the Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF) Load-In Facility expansion and backup station. The ETF is part of the Liquid Waste Processing Facility, which began operation in 1995. The ETF processes liquid waste to remove chemical and radioactive contaminants. The load-in facility expansion (1800 sq ft added to an existing 3600 sq ft) doubled the capacity of the facility through interior modifications to foundation and piping systems and added the capability to fully enclose the trucks in doors during offloading operations. The backup station (3200 sq ft) was constructed to serve as the alternate facility while the load-in facility expansion was constructed and is planned to be a storage facility. Other portions of the design included designing the offloading system, adding road access to the backup station, widening existing roadways, enclosing a sump area (1700 sq ft). The team supported procurement, construction and commissioning.
